Two NAPs, two very different results, and both are worth recapping plainly. We independently checked each result against outside sources before writing this up.
Blue Bolt won the Group 1 Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday, beating Evolutionist (25/1) by two and three-quarter lengths under Colin Keane for trainer Andrew Balding. She went off at 1/4, shorter than the 3/10 on our card, and it was her sixth win from six this season and her fourth Group 1 in a row, after the Falmouth, the Prix Rothschild and the Matron Stakes. When we published we called it "one of the cleanest, strongest cases we've presented," with little to caveat beyond the very short price and a mismatch between the two rating figures on the card. That's how it played out. We don't have a confirmed stake and return for this bet yet, so we're not publishing one here.
Loughrea was beaten at the Curragh on Sunday. Sent off the 10/11 favourite in the Listed Coolmore Sioux Nation Concorde Stakes, he finished third, four lengths behind the winner King Cuan (6/1). This was a case we described as "a momentum play with real questions attached": three wins in a row, but only sixth of ten on our own ratings, a 36-day gap and 133lb to carry. We recommended a reduced stake and each-way for exactly those reasons. A third-placed finish meant the place part of an each-way bet would have been in the money, though the win part was not, and the ratings concern we flagged did turn out to be a fair read of a field where plenty of rivals were rated higher.
Put side by side, these two make a useful pair. Blue Bolt had almost nothing working against her and won easily. Loughrea had several stacked concerns and was beaten, though not by a distance. The strength of the case we described beforehand lined up with how the races went, and that's the point of naming concerns plainly before the race instead of explaining them afterwards.
